How are the Taxes on Nicotine Products Calculated?

State Excise Tax (SET), also referred to as “tobacco/nicotine tax”, is applied in accordance with applicable state and local laws. For tobacco products, all states apply SET, however for Tobacco-Free products most states do not apply any SET.

The way SET is calculated depends on the product category (Tobacco or Tobacco-Free) and the state, and are calculated in one of the following ways:

  • based on a % of the wholesale price (cost) to Nicokick
  • based on Nicokick selling price to the customer
  • based on weight (per selling unit)

How is the Sales Tax on an Order Calculated?

Example: A customer has placed an order in a state with SET and Sales tax:

  • SET rate in state = 56.93%
  • Sales tax rate in state = 7.25%
  • Wholesale Cost per can = $3.00
  • Selling price to customer = $3.99;
  • SET per can = $3.00 * 0.5693 = $1.71;
  • Sales tax per can = ($3.99 + $1.71) * 0.0725 = $0.41

    • Selling price to customer + SET + Sales Tax = Final price to Customer (per can): $3.99 + $1.71 + $0.41 = $6.11

These are great in every way. I picked up a can to go with my morning coffee/tea, and they complement it really well. I typically use 6-9mg pouches, and the slow release of these 12mg pouches does not overwhelm me. The scent reminds me a lot of Kahlúa, and the flavor (which slowly builds) is not far off from that. Pouch size is large, slim, and soft; comfortable. Can is nice, with a firm snap to close, and a catch lid on the top. The only thing I could complain about is the slightly high price compared to competing brands, but the pouches last a good long while (1 hour for me) to justify the price.

Best of the limited release flavors in my opinion. Other brands “coffee” flavors are generally too sweet. This one is more of a black coffee type flavor with just a hint of t of sweetness.

I hope that this becomes a regular in their product line. Grizzly has done a great job with their revamped Nicotine pouch lineup.
